A man picks out red peppers from a stand at the District's newest farmers market, which took over I Street on Thursday. First Lady Michelle Obama had a role in urging the Department of Transportation to accomodate the market (U of M Photo/Ben Giles)

Patrons at the I Street farmers market take a look at items for sale at an organic fragrance stand. Many stands at the market sold items other than fruits and vegetables typical of farmers markets (U of M Photo/Ben Giles)

As the sun sets on the I Street farmers market, residents pass through and pick up wares from the stands on their way home. The market took over I Street, just a block from the White House, for the entire day (U of M Photo/Ben Giles)
